Visiting the Box.

The Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway Association is a registered charity, number 1016237. It and the railway it owns are operated, managed, developed and maintained entirely by volunteers.

As we now have a lease on the box and the surrounding area and have it fenced from the railways, we have the potential to bring in special visitors and contractors.

However, due to the work going on and the condition of the building, it just isn't practical to do this routinely. There is almost no working signalling equipment, and since we must prioritise the protection and restoration of the building, it will be some time before there is.

Nevertheless, we would like to encourage people to take an interest in what we are trying to do, and hopefully to join us and support the project either as a volunteer or in other ways.

We are planning to open the signal box again in 2021. Please note that this is subject to any changes in legislation by the government!

Access is via Platform 4 at the railway station. On arrival at the main entrance cross over the footbridge to Platform 3. Adjacent to Platform 3 (on the other side of the blue fence) is our restored Platform 4 from which we have been running steam trains since 2018. Please come on to Platform 4 and follow it down to the far end.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There is a rough footpath to the box from the Platform 4 entry point and a steep staircase so robust footwear is strongly advised.

The number of visitors in the box at any given time will have to be limited for health & safety reasons and, in line with current regulations, masks will have to be worn by all except those with the usual exemptions. Social distancing regulations must be adhered to at all times.

Given the uncertainties we are living through at present and to accommodate visitors to the website who may not be able to attend or cannot wait for the next Open Day we have produced two 360° videos of the operating floor of the box. These have been posted on YouTube:-
